‘Un’Assigned Seats

You don’t have assigned seats when you get to college, as you so figure out quickly, and if you do have assigned seats, it’s extremely rare. High school made such a huge deal about being in your assigned seat and nowhere else, that when you get to college and don’t have assigned seats, your almost shocked. Let’s not even get to talking about how surprised you were when you discovered that the seats shrunk by 50% either.

The funniest part of all of this is that you still kinda assign yourself to a seat anyway, especially in small classes. Large classes are a little more difficult to pick a constant chair, but you will find yourself sitting in the same section almost every time. You often wonder why you do it, but you never question it enough to change it.

Then there are the times when someone else sits in your self-designated, unassigned seat, but you don’t want to make a big deal out of it. But you also know that now you have to sit in someone else’ unassigned seat, and now it’s a domino effect. After that, you try to get there maybe one minute earlier so that that person doesn’t take your seat again. Again, it is a subconscious thing, and you wonder why you do it, but you don’t question it enough to change it.
